Two-dimensional echocardiography and B-mode ultrasonography for the diagnosis of loculated pericardial effusion.
Two cases of loculated pericardial effusion resulting in cardiac tamponade are presented. The loculated nature and extent of the effusion was best defined by two-dimensional echocardiography or B- mode ultrasonography. Cross-sectional images should probably be obtained in all cases of suspected loculated pericardial effusion and in patients in whom the interpretation of the M-mode echocardiogra...
متن کاملLoculated cardiac hematoma causing hemodynamic compromise after cardiac surgery.
The authors describe a case of a rare complication occurring after cardiac surgery. Three weeks after aortic valve replacement a young male became hemodynamically unstable. The echocardiogram showed a large loculated hematoma compressing the right atrium. The patient was reoperated and the mass was removed. Recovery was complete.
متن کاملCardiac tamponade and pericardial effusion: respiratory variation in transvalvular flow velocities studied by Doppler echocardiography.
Cardiac tamponade has been associated with an abnormally increased respiratory variation in transvalvular blood flow velocities. To determine whether this finding is consistently present in cardiac tamponade, seven patients were studied prospectively with Doppler echocardiography before and after pericardiocentesis and the results were compared with those found in 20 normal adults and 14 asympt...
متن کاملcardiac tamponade by hydatid pericardial cyst: a rare case report
discussion hydatid cyst in pericardium represents only 0.5-2% of cases of systemic echinoccocal infection. isolated pericardial cyst is very rare in endemic region and may present mimicking acute coronary syndrome. cardiac hydatid cysts should always be considered in presence of eosinophilia as present like acute coronary syndrome in endemic area. introduction hydatid cysts are most commonly fo...
متن کاملTuberculous pericardial abscess with impending pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade.
The case of a 59 year male with acute tuberculous pericardial abscess who presented with cough, dyspnoea, haemoptysis, signs of Tamponade and a large Pleural Effusion is reported. Performing Pericardiocentesis did not improve his symptoms hence he was subjected to surgery. Acute tuberculous pericardial abscess was the diagnosis made after histopathology which was successfully managed with stern...
